Kona Cotton Fabric Overview

We’re so excited to be able to announce the addition of Kona Cotton to our fabric lineup. This is a 100% woven cotton fabric with a more open weave, making it a popular quilting fabric but also one that works quite well for crafting projects, embroidery, clothing, and a variety of other uses.

We’ll cover more details below but first, enjoy this video of Jon giving a brief overview of the fabric.

Characteristics of Our Kona Cotton Quilting Fabric

The Kona Cotton is a 100% cotton fabric with a weight of 4.35 oz per square yard and a printable width of 42″.

Plain, Open Weave

This fabric features a plain weave that is more open than our other fabrics. This feature is what makes the Kona Cotton popular with customers who are looking for a quality quilting fabric or fabric for embroidery and other crafting projects, since it is easier to penetrate with a needle.

Sourced from Robert Kaufman

This Kona Cotton is the same quilting fabric from Robert Kaufman that many of you already know and love so well. It has become a very popular fabric from them with their collection of solid colors. We’re excited to collaborate with them, bringing this fabric into custom fabric space and allowing you to print your designs onto it.

Highly Versatile

Most people know this fabric as a quilting fabric due to its open weave and the narrower width (42″ printable) that is common with quilting fabrics. However, it is a quality, versatile cotton fabric that is also used for clothing, aprons, crafting projects, embroidery, and a variety of other uses.

Durable and Vibrant

Like all our fabrics, we have tested the Kona Cotton in house for wash and rub durability and are confident that it will hold up well to rigorous use. We print your designs on the Kona Cotton fabric using our pigment printer and organic ink. Our prints are known for their vibrancy and color-fastness.

How to Care for Kona Cotton

We recommend washing separate in cool water on a delicate cycle with a mild, phosphate free detergent. Tumble dry in low temperatures. Woven fabrics may experience fraying when washed. To avoid this, you can serge along the cut edge. Iron on the unprinted side of the fabric.
